Filming the sex scenes for Darren Thornton’s RTE drama series ‘Love is the Drug’ wasn’t embarrassing for Drogheda based actress Janet Moran but watching herself doing it on TV last Monday night certainly was!

‘I was mortified looking at it,’ laughed Janet who plays the fiancé of Gary, the eldest of the Kirwan brothers on which the story-line is based.

‘All I was thinking about was my father looking at it,’ said Janet who is originally from Dublin but has been living in Trinity Gardens for almost two years.

The Drogheda Independent caught up with Janet and her fellow Drogheda ‘Love is the Drug’ actors Colin O’Donoghue from Beaubec and John Finegan from Brookville on Tuesday morning.

All three had watched the second episode of the series the night previously and were looking forward to seeing what the reaction would be like.

‘After my behaviour last night I hope it is as positive as last week,’ joked Janet.

‘My sister said that after the first episode the phone was hopping at home so I don’t know what it will be like now,’ she said.

Yes people have been recognising her on the street.

‘Last Tuesday after the first episode myself and Darren Thornton went for a coffee and these two little ladies were pointing at me and saying you were on the programme last night. It was great,’ she said.

Colin O’Donoghue has also been getting a very positive reaction even though, he points out, a lot of people didn’t recognise him as the somewhat psycho brother of Lisa, (played by Ruth Negga) one of the central characters in the RTE series.

‘He’s a great character to play, a bit of a headbanger,’ laughed Colin.

‘I had my head shaved and a lot of people didn’t recognise me which I suppose is good in one way because I came across as this other person.

‘He certainly was an interesting character to play.’

Colin says that it is really nice to be part of a series set in his home-town.

‘I never got to do a Drogheda accent before and I think its brilliant for the town in terms of the profile that it is getting.

‘I think the town looks very well in it,’ he said.

And, yes, he’s been getting plenty of slagging about his puking scene in the show!

‘I’d plenty of Saturday night practice for that,’ he joked.

John Finegan, known as ‘Figs’ to his friend, plays a barman in the series, and says that he has been getting a very good reaction on the streets of the town.

‘I do believe it is an accurate reflection of what goes on out there,’ he remarked.

Janet admits that whilst filming it never crossed her mind that the language or sex would be an issue.

‘I was more conscious of it last night because it had been mentioned,’ she said.

‘It’ll be interesting to see the reaction to last night’s episode in the coming days.

It’s been a great opportunity for me. I certainly enjoyed shooting the scenes and Garrett Lombard who plays my boyfriend Gary is a really good actor.’

All three promise plenty of juicy story-lines in the last three episodes coming up.

‘There’s lots of good drama, laughs and twists to come,’ teased Janet.
